Pacific Northwest folk:
How would you recommend one get between Seattle and Vancouver, if one were to be making this trip somewhere around the end of July of this year?

One way trip, direction to be determined, not in a hurry, rental car is not an option, and I am disgruntled to discover there is no direct ferry service. I like ferries.

Vancouver, WA, or Vancouver, BC? I have a friend I can ask for suggestions.

Oh, and she says: ""Amtrak would hit both. And although there's no direct ferry, one can use Victoria as a mid-point and it's a lovely city to visit."

BC. I'd love to hear whatever your friend can suggest.

IIRC there's a train that's quite nice to take...

Is that just plain old Amtrak?

"Plain old Amtrak"?? I believe it's the Coast Starlight, or something else of pretty name! But Victoria, BC is beautiful, in case your plans let you linger there.

There is amtrak, and a ferry that bounces off Victoria (rather long and slow, but scenic). There are small sea planes. There is also a bus, cheaper and more frequent / flexible service than most of the above. It's only a couple hours. It's really not much of a trip.

If you can find a driving buddy, a rental car is often fine too.

The train is our preferred method. Read the schedule carefully, though, as Amtrak will happily book you on an intercity bus if you request a time not served by a train. Also, keep an eye on the weather reports, as the tracks are known to wash out north of Seattle.
